Helping kids learn healthy hygiene habits is not a task for the faint of heart! Here at Echeverri Dental Center, we realize some days, you need all the help you can get! Here are some ideas to help you help your kids brush their teeth.

Character Support: Enlist the help of your child’s favorite characters! Many television shows and books have stories about brushing and flossing teeth. Reading and watching these stories together may help! You can refer to the stories when it is time to brush. Additionally, child-sized toothbrushes come in many fun colors and beloved characters. Try letting your child choose a favorite character to come along on the brushing adventure.

Family Time: Brushing teeth for 2 minutes, twice a day and flossing once a day for 2-3 minutes/session gives you an extra 3 hours a month with your child. Make it fun as often as possible! Crank up your child’s favorite song and have a two-minute dance party (carefully, of course!). You can take the time to make up a story, using people your child knows as characters. Try coming up with new ways to spend the time, or develop a daily tradition that will last a lifetime.

Lead By Example: It may be much easier for your child to brush and floss properly if they see you doing the same. These small examples to your child may help them develop strong hygiene habits to last a lifetime.

Don’t forget to schedule your child’s regular dental appointment! The more positive and consistent you are, the more likely your child is to have a healthy smile to last a lifetime! Call Echeverri Dental Center at 713-956-8767 to set up an appointment with Dr. Juan Echeverri and our team today!
