What is a dental filling?
To restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay back to its natural shape and strength, we may suggest a dental filling. A dental filling is used to restore the shape and strength of a tooth after decayed tooth structure has been removed.

How is a dental filling placed?
First, the area will be numbed by our dentists in Houston, Texas, to ensure comfort during the procedure. Decay will be removed from the tooth and the area will be thoroughly cleaned. The area will be examined to make sure that all decay and debris has been removed. Then the dental filling will be placed. If composite material is being used, the filling will be placed in layers. Each layer will be cured as it is placed. The final filling is shaped and polished.

How do I take care of my dental filling?
It may come as a surprise that a dental filling does not need any special care. All you need to do is care for the tooth with the filling in the same way that you would your other teeth. Be sure to brush your teeth once a day and floss once daily. Also, visit our office at least twice each year for professional cleanings and exams.
